Eastern BlueBird -Saluda, North Carolina-93E0642

The eastern bluebird  is a small thrush found in open woodlands, farmlands, and orchards. It is the state bird of Missouri and New York.

Male Bluebirds are a brilliant royal blue on the back and head, and warm red-brown on the breast.

The bright-blue breeding plumage of the male, easily observed on a wire or open perch, makes this species a favorite of birders.

  1. Another great set! I look at my Sibley bird guide to see the difference between the eastern and western bluebirds (I usually just use my location to figure out who’s who). You know the differences are obvious when looking at the guide, but if these birds overlapped I think there would be a lot of mistakes made in ID.
