Small Wild Goose Pagoda, Xian

This structure doesn’t appear small to me.  In fact there are two pagodas in Xian, one labeled as the Giant Pagoda while this other one is the Small.  In ancient time, Wild Goose Pagoda” was built in the Da Ci’en Temple to store the “sutras” which the eminent monk Xuan Zang had brought from India to Chang’an, today’s Xian.

A sutra is a Sanskrit word that means “string, thread”. In Indian literary traditions, it also refers to an aphorism or a collection of aphorisms in the form of a manual or, more broadly, a condensed manual or text. (Wikipedia definition)

Violent storms and earthquakes destroyed the upper stories of the structure and the edges, but the building itself sustain the chocks.  One can see the indent evidence in the second picture.
